Route designed by local operators
What this journey is really like
A remote Changthang journey for properly acclimatized travelers, planned around permits, fuel and border-area route rules. This is a planning framework, not a rigid bus-tour schedule. The day order can move when weather, road controls, flight times or accommodation availability make another sequence safer and more enjoyable.
- Permit and route verification
- Remote-capable vehicle
- Fuel and contingency planning
- Two Hanle nights
- Health-first Umling La decision
- Flexible Tso Moriri routing
Animated route preview
The line shows the planning sequence, not a turn-by-turn navigation map. Final road choice follows official opening, checkpoint and local transport rules.
Detailed day-by-day itinerary
Start times remain flexible until travel dates and hotel locations are confirmed. We deliberately state long days and local-vehicle handovers instead of hiding them in the fine print.
Day 1: Arrive in Leh
Complete rest.
Day 2: Leh acclimatization
Light local day and document preparation.
Day 3: Leh to Nubra
Cross into Nubra and rest at the lower valley elevation.
Day 4: Nubra to Pangong
Follow the approved Shyok route when open.
Day 5: Pangong to Hanle
Travel through the approved Changthang route with checkpoint and permit compliance.
Day 6: Hanle and observatory landscape
A low-exertion village day; observatory access is subject to local rules and cannot be promised.
Day 7: Umling La attempt and return
Proceed only when authorities, weather, vehicle readiness and health allow. Time at the pass is brief; turning back is always acceptable.
Day 8: Hanle to Tso Moriri / Leh routing
Use the safest approved route and selected overnight plan based on current conditions.
Day 9: Return/departure buffer
A Leh buffer is strongly recommended before flying.

Frequently asked questions
Can the Hanle & Umling La Expedition · 9 Days itinerary be customised?
Yes. Nights, route, hotel category, meal plan and pickup point can be changed. We confirm whether a requested change is sensible for the season and driving time before quoting.
Are flights and activity tickets included?
Flights are not included. Gondola, pony, skiing, monument and other activity tickets are included only when the final written quote names them.
What happens if a road or pass closes?
Mountain routes can change with weather, maintenance or security orders. We first adjust the sequence or use a safe alternative; any material cost change is discussed before it is incurred.
Is this a fixed-departure group tour?
No. The standard version is a private trip for your party with a dedicated vehicle. Group departures are offered only when clearly stated.
How is the final price calculated?
The final price reflects travel dates, hotel category, number and age of travelers, vehicle type, meal plan, permits and separately regulated local services.
