Kashmir Valley: Open for Spring Season Updated : 19-March-2026

The tourism season in the valley has officially begun, marked by the early opening of its biggest spring attraction.

  • Tulip Garden, Srinagar (OPEN): Asia’s largest tulip garden was inaugurated early this year on March 16, 2026, due to warmer weather. It is currently in full bloom and open to the public. Book Your Cabs in Srinagar
  • Gulmarg (OPEN): Both phases of the Gondola are operational. Note: Local snowfall on the 18th/19th has added a fresh layer of white, perfect for late-season skiing.
  • Pahalgam (OPEN): Accessible and fully operational, including Aru and Betaab Valley.
  • Sonamarg (OPEN): Accessible via the Z-Morh Tunnel, though some high-altitude trekking points nearby may still be snowbound.
  • Simthan Top Pass (CLOSED): High-altitude passes, specifically Simthan top, is temporarily closed from March 18–20, 2026, due to fresh snowfall
    Gurez Valley (CLOSED): temporarily closed from March 18–20, 2026, due to fresh snowfall received at Razdan Pass.
  • Other Spots: Doodhpathri and Yusmarg have recently reopened after being cleared for the spring season.

Ladakh: Limited Connectivity

While the region is beautiful, overland access is currently restricted due to recent weather activity.

  • Srinagar-Leh Highway (NH-1D): CLOSED (Temporary). High-altitude passes, specifically Zojila Pass, are temporarily closed from March 18–20, 2026, due to fresh snowfall and cloudy weather. BRO is working on clearance; expect a gradual reopening after the 20th.
  • Manali-Leh Highway: CLOSED. This route remains shut for the winter. Snow clearance is underway, with an expected opening for tourists in late May 2026.
  • Internal Ladakh (OPEN): Tourists can fly into Leh. Local sights like Pangong Tso and Nubra Valley are accessible, though travelers should be prepared for sub-zero temperatures and potential short-term road blocks at Khardung La or Chang La if it snows.
